Today, on behalf of the Vestry, I am pleased to share the wonderful news that we have called The Rev. Canon Justin Howard to be the next Rector of All Saints’ Anglican Cathedral, and he has joyfully accepted this call. Fr Justin abundantly possesses the qualifications sought and Vestry believes he is the most qualified person to lead us at this time. Many at All Saints’ know Father Justin and his wife Mother Amy, also a priest, through their work as church planters of Imago Dei Anglican Church in Bangor, Maine. In 2017, Fr Justin assumed responsibilities as the Canon for Church Planting in the Anglican Diocese of New England (ADNE). His reference contacts emphasized his fine leadership capacity and passion for the Gospel.

Although our call is to Fr Justin, we are anticipating that Mthr Amy will be using her gifts in ministry here as well. Since 2008, in addition to her work at Imago Dei, Mother Amy has developed and led work in Encounter God Weekends and several ongoing projects in prayer, prophetic, and healing ministries.

Both Fr Justin and Mthr Amy have strong personal relationships with Jesus Christ, competence and knowledge of Scripture, and abilities to inspire and lead. Both will bring their gifts to help us connect and care for the many in our local community who don’t yet know the love and life God has for them in Jesus Christ. Both have a heart for evangelism and discipleship. We also extend a very warm welcome to their family of six boys–Josiah, Simeon, Judah, Elijah, Aidan and Noel.

Over the next several weeks, the Vestry and Officers will be working with Fr Justin to arrange the details of his position going forward. I am confident that despite the current physical separations and restrictions now upon us during the Covid-19 outbreaks, we will, under God’s grace, be able to welcome, receive, and get to know the Howards and their family. Finally, let us continue in diligent prayer during this Lenten season. It is marked with challenges, but also with the eternal hope and joy we have in the Triune God.

Thanks to everyone who joined us in prayer as we undertook this journey of finding God’s next Rector for our church. The journey began last Fall when the Vestry of All Saints’ prepared the required Parish Profile and Rector Position Description and posted them in late December. Candidates submitted materials for review, and the Vestry conducted phone calls and interviews. For all their hard work on the search alongside their other responsibilities, I’m especially grateful to my Vestry colleagues: Alan Carter, Patty Champion, Elizabeth Craig, Nathan Etu, Charlotte Green, Ticia Hill-Zeigler, Bruce McBrien, Michael Mayo, Bob Salois, and Mother Susie Skillen, Interim Rector.
