Alpha Invite & Volunteer
Why Invite Friends? Alpha is based on a pattern you find in the New Testament of people bringing their friends, family and work colleagues to meet Jesus. Andrew brought his brother Peter; Philip brought Nathaniel; Matthew had a party and invited all his work colleagues – he said, ‘Come and meet Jesus!’
Alpha is an easy way of saying to friends, ‘Come and see, come and explore your questions, come and hear about Jesus, come and see for yourself.’
How Do People Come to Alpha?
Things like print and digital advertising and facebook invitations can help, but advertising at its best simply raises awareness and helps set up a personal invitation. In fact 86% of guests come to Alpha because of a personal invitation.
They come, because God invites them through us.
Here are steps we can take to join in what God is doing:
1 Inspiration: Learn the Personal Stories
If you haven’t done Alpha before, watch a few of the Alpha video stories from the alphausa.org/blog. Stories are the best way to hear the heart of what Alpha is all about. The stories are brief, diverse, and encouraging.
2 Information: Prepare for Conversation
The Information on the flip side of this sheet provides some of the main things you need to know and be able to share with a friend. More information is available at alphausa.org.
3 Intention: Pray for Guidance and Courage
Pray that God would bring to mind the people He wants you to invite and that He will give you the opportunities and the courage you need to extend those invitations. Pray with a few others and encourage each other to make plans and follow through on them.
4 Invitation: Ask and Encourage
It takes a bit of courage and risk to share something that’s important to you, but it’s worth the effort. Alpha could be an experience that someone else is looking for. Invite the people God has been preparing through your prayers. Encourage them to come explore. Then leave it in God’s hands as you continue to pray for them.
