Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith.
Each session involves a meal, a video talk, and conversation.
Each talk is designed to create conversation around a different topic for exploring questions of life, faith, and meaning.
The Alpha course typically runs over eleven weeks, but you can join at any time.
Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone is welcome.
What is Alpha? Alpha is a series interactive sessions, typically run over eleven weeks, including a weekend away, where anyone can explore life and the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment.
Who’s Alpha for? Everyone is welcome, but Alpha is designed particularly for people who would not describe themselves as Christians or church-goers. There’s no charge to attend Alpha – it’s free. You can join or stop at any time.
What Happens at Alpha? Typical Alpha sessions have three key things in common: food, a video talk, and good conversation.
•First up there’s Food: Whether it’s a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick catch-up over coffee and cake, food has a way of bringing people together. It’s no different at Alpha. We start with food, because it’s a great way to encourage community and get to know each other.
•Then a Video Talk: The video talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? Each video is around 25 minutes long.
•Followed by Discussion: Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything. And there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.
